IMPROVING THE LIVES OF BLOOD CANCER PATIENTS
RESEARCH. EDUCATION. AWARENESS.
The Better Life Foundation of California was founded in 2016. Our non-profit is focused on improving the lives of those affected with blood cancers by funding research and educational programs.
EVENTS & PROJECTS
Better Life Foundation hosts an annual fundraiser - Sunday on the Green - an all-day event that includes an 18-hole golf tournament followed by an afternoon party. The foundation is also associated with Ride for Dads, a group focused on finding new cures for blood cancers.
TUSCANO RESEARCH FUND
The Better Life Foundation is a primary benefactor of the Tuscano Research Fund at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Joseph Tuscano is a Sacramento area oncologist and researcher and his areas of specialty include the treatment of leukemia, lymphoma, MDS, and multiple myeloma.
Better Life Foundation was founded in 2016 by Loel Heupel, Executive Director. Loel was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2006, and had a successful bone marrow transplant in 2012. At that time, he committed to giving back to the people and the community that helped him beat cancer, including the physician who treated him, Dr. Joseph Tuscano of Sacramento.
Since 2013, when a small volunteer group organized by the Better Life Foundation kicked off their first benefit event, the non-profit has raised more than $200,000 to help fund blood cancer research programs.
The Foundation continues to seek ways to increase the awareness of cancers and to help improve the lives of those affected by blood cancers. The charity is based in Carmichael, CA.
